The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has published its Position Stand "Appropriate Physical Activity Intervention Strategies for Weight Loss and Prevention of Weight Regain for Adults," updating its previous guidelines, particularly as it relates to the increased levels of physical activity that may be necessary for prevention of weight gain, for weight loss and for prevention of weight regain.

A new US study of a racially and economically diverse urban population of children attending state-run schools found that kids who were physically fit scored better on standardized academic achievement tests than their less fit counterparts. The study is published in the Journal of School Health and was the work of Dr Virginia R. Chomitz and colleagues.
New Findings Announced By The Center For The Study Of Traumatic Encephalopathy

Leading medical experts at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy (CSTE) at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) reported today that nine-year NFL veteran, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Tom McHale was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease caused by head trauma, when he died in 2008 at the age of 45.
Exercise Does Not Appear To Raise Damage To Joints

There is no good evidence supporting a harmful effect of exercise on joints in the setting of normal joints and regular exercise, according to a review of studies published in this month's issue of the Journal of Anatomy. Exercise is an extremely popular leisure-time activity in many countries throughout the Western world and has for many become part of the modern lifestyle.
